CCTV Systems

See everything. From anywhere.

We install and maintain CCTV and IP CCTV systems to PSA standards — from a single camera on a family home to multi-camera commercial systems with 24-hour monitoring.

What CCTV gives you

Modern CCTV is sharper, smarter and simpler

Today's systems record in resolutions from HD to 4K — detailed enough to zoom in on faces, registration plates and events after the fact — with live viewing and playback on your phone wherever you are.

  • Perimeter security and protection of yards, forecourts and car parks
  • Monitoring activity and deliveries around your premises
  • A visual record of events — backed up and exportable for Gardaí or insurers
  • Free smartphone apps for live viewing and playback
  • Recording retained typically 2–4 weeks, sized to your needs

Camera types

The right camera in the right place

Our qualified staff advise on camera placement at strategic points to achieve the goal: protection and security of the areas that matter.

Bullet Cameras

Designed mainly for outdoor installation. Day/night coverage with integrated infra-red illumination for full visibility in total darkness.

Dome Cameras

For indoor and outdoor use. Discreet profile, day/night coverage with built-in infra-red, and vandal-resistant options.

PTZ Cameras

Pan, tilt and zoom through 360° with optional auto-tracking — ideal where you need to watch different areas at different times.

360° / Fisheye Cameras

Panoramic coverage of a whole area from a single camera, with split views for detailed monitoring and night vision.

CCTV maintenance

To ensure your CCTV system is fully functional at all times — and that it is actually recording usable footage when you need it — we recommend a maintenance agreement. Our routine inspections to I.S. EN 50132 include:

  • Quarterly or six-monthly inspection depending on system type and environment
  • Verification that cameras, recording and playback all work correctly
  • Checking recording retention, hard disk health and time settings
  • Review of building or site changes that affect camera coverage
  • Easy transfer from your current supplier or maintainer

Maintenance contract customers get a guaranteed 3-hour emergency response, technical helpdesk support, reduced call-out rates and a full written report after every visit.

Monitored CCTV

Combine cameras with 24-hour monitoring through Smart Monitoring Ltd for verified response to events on your site.

About Monitoring

Legal obligations

CCTV, GDPR and Data Protection

CCTV systems that capture images of identifiable people are processing personal data. That means Irish and EU data protection law applies — primarily the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Ireland's Data Protection Act 2018. Getting the technical setup right is only part of the job; the system must also be operated lawfully.

What the law requires

Before any cameras go up, you need a clear, documented reason for using CCTV. In most cases this is a "legitimate interest" — protecting your property, staff or customers — but it must be balanced against people's right to privacy. Cameras should not be pointed where people have a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as restrooms, changing areas or staff break rooms.

You must tell people that recording is taking place. Clear, visible CCTV signs at entry points are essential. They should identify who operates the system and how to make contact. We supply printable CCTV signs and can advise on wording and placement.

Footage must be stored securely and kept only as long as necessary. For most businesses, 14 to 30 days is typical, though high-risk sites may need a longer period. Your system should be configured so retention periods are enforced automatically and footage cannot be accidentally deleted or overwritten during an incident.

Access, sharing and accountability

Anyone captured on your CCTV has the right to request a copy of their personal data from the footage. You must be able to provide it, redacting or blurring other individuals where necessary. An Garda Síochána may also request footage during an investigation; it is good practice to keep a written record of any request and, where possible, to have it made on Garda headed paper.

Access to live and recorded footage should be restricted to authorised people only. Keep logs of who views footage and when. If a third party — such as a security company or maintenance engineer — handles footage on your behalf, you should have a written contract in place that sets out their data protection responsibilities.

Centaur Alarms designs, installs and maintains CCTV systems with these obligations in mind. We help you choose camera positions, set retention periods, configure secure access and document the steps you need to stay compliant.
